Keep a daily log for each project

A daily log records how each day on a project went, with notes, issues, materials, weather and photos. The hours come from check-ins, and a written summary downloads as a PDF.

Open a project's daily log

Open Tools, then Daily log. Choose the project in the box at the top right. The first project opens by itself.

The days run down the left, newest first, with today marked Today. A logged day shows On track, At risk or Off track, and a day with no log shows No log. The list greys the days after today, and they cannot open.

Type a date in Jump to date to reach an older day.

Write the field report

Click a day. On Field report, answer How did the day go? with On track, At risk or Off track.

Type what was done in Notes. Under Any issues today?, click Yes to describe what went wrong, or leave it on No. Add Materials and Weather if you want them on the record.

Click Save. Until then, a new day keeps what you type as a draft. Your drafts at the top lists it if you leave first.

Once the day is saved, click Add photos to add site photos. Each photo shows straight away, with a bar while it uploads.

Check the work log

Under Work log, each person who checked in to the project's jobs that day has a row with their Activity and Hours. The activity is the job's work type, or its name when it has none.

Nobody types these hours. They come from check-ins, so the log and the timesheets always agree. Breaks come off, and somebody still on site shows on site beside the hours so far.

The work log needs each job linked to its project. If the Jobs table has no Project field, the log says so. Add the field to Jobs and choose the project on each job.

Write the summary and finish the day

Click Summary, then Write summary. We write a few short paragraphs from the notes, issues, materials, weather and work log, in your workspace's language. Click Regenerate after changing the field report.

Click Download PDF for the day's log with its summary, work log and photos. A draft prints DRAFT across each page.

Click Final when the day is complete. Nobody can change or delete a final log until somebody clicks Draft again.
