Import records from a CSV file
Create or update properties, entities and projects from a CSV file, including your own fields and the contacts they link to.
On this page
Choose what you are importing
Open Settings in the sidebar and click Mass data synchronisation engine.
Under Import type, click Properties, Entities or Projects. Under Section, pick the table the rows go into. Properties also has sections for valuations, bills and credentials, which attach to a property by its street address.
Click Download template. The file has one column for every field the section takes, your own fields included, headed with their names as they appear in the app.
Upload the file
Fill in the template, one record per row, and save it as CSV.
Click Select CSV file to sync and choose the file. The first five rows appear underneath, so you can check the columns lined up. Click Analyse file.
Review the rows
Each row starts as + New, as ↑ Update when it matches a record you already have, or as Skip when it looks like a duplicate of one. Click the button to change it: + New, then Skip, then ↑ Update.
Click any cell to correct its value before it is written. A row flagged as a likely duplicate says why in Flags.
On an update, an empty cell leaves that field as it is. It never clears it.
Settle the linked fields
A field that links to another record, such as a Client on a project, holds the record's name in the file. A name that matches exactly one record links to it. Capitals and extra spaces are ignored.
Every other name is listed under Linked fields, once however many rows use it. For a name several records share, click the right one: each shows its type and email to tell them apart. For a name with no match, search the list under it, or click New person named ... or New business named ... to create one. Leave empty imports the row without the link.
Commit stays greyed out until every name has an answer. Click Change to answer one again.
Commit and check the results
Click Commit. The button counts the rows that will be written. Keep the tab open until it finishes.
The results list every row as + New, ↑ Updated or Failed, with the reason for a failure. A linked field shows the record the row now points at.
Click the arrow at the end of a row to archive a record you did not mean to import. Import another file starts again. Past imports are under Import history in Settings.
