Record and map your drivers' trips

The Diract phone app records each trip a driver starts: the road on a map, speed, rest breaks, harsh acceleration and braking, uphill and downhill, weather and traffic, with average speed on each regular route over any period.

Start a trip on the phone

In the phone app, open Tools, then Trips. Type the Vehicle if you want it on the record, and tap one of today's jobs under Going to to read the traffic on the way there. Both are optional.

Tap Start trip. The first time, the phone asks for your location. Choose Allow While Using App, and when it later asks, Change to Always Allow, so the trip keeps recording with the screen off.

While it records, iPhone shows a blue location bar and Android shows a Recording your trip notification. Nothing is recorded outside a trip you started.

Watch the trip and end it

The Trips screen shows the road so far, your Speed, how far you have Driven, the time Since a break and when the Next break due is.

A stop of 15 minutes or more counts as a rest break. Shorter stops are listed as stops.

Tap End trip, then End trip again to confirm. The trip opens with its figures worked out.

Read a trip

On the web, open Tools, then Trips. The list starts on This week; choose This month or All time, search by driver, route, vehicle or destination, and sort newest or oldest first.

Click a trip. The map colours the road by speed: red under 30 km/h, amber under 70 and green above. R marks a rest break, P a stop, A harsh acceleration and B harsh braking.

Below the map are the distance, driving time, average and top speed, breaks, harsh events, climb and descent, and the steepest uphill and downhill. Breaks and fatigue says whether the trip stayed within the standard hours.

Weather lists the conditions read along the way, and Traffic compares the trip with the usual speed on the same route at the same time of day.

See the trucks on the road

Click On the road to see every trip recording now, each truck at its last position. The map refreshes every 15 seconds. A truck shown grey has not sent a position for ten minutes.

Click a truck to open its trip.

Compare a route over any period

Open a finished trip, type a name under Route and click Save as route. Its start and end become a regular run, and every later trip that starts and finishes within a kilometre of them is filed under it.

Click Routes and choose the route. Choose This week, This month, Last 12 weeks, All time or Custom to see the average speed, time, breaks per trip, harsh events per 100 km and how much of the road was in slow traffic.

The two charts show the average speed by the hour a trip left and by weekday.

Change what counts as harsh, and delete stored weather

On Trips, click Settings. Admins set Harsh acceleration (g), Harsh braking (g), the Shortest rest break (minutes) and the Fatigue rules, then click Save changes.

Weather, traffic and elevation come from Google and are kept with each trip. To remove them for one trip, open it and click Delete weather, traffic and elevation. To remove them for every trip, click Delete all stored weather, traffic and elevation in Settings.
