Use Diract Mail on its own, for free

Diract Mail is a free inbox at mail.diract.io for Gmail, Outlook or any email account with IMAP or POP3. Projects, tasks and the rest of the workspace start with a 14 day free trial.

A free mail account reads, searches, writes and sends email. Its composer has the ruler and paragraph spacing too. Filing an email to a project and adding a task from it need the workspace. So does every screen outside mail. An admin can start its free trial from inside your mail.

Create a free account or open yours

Go to mail.diract.io and tick I accept the Terms of Service and the Privacy policy. Every way in asks for it.

Click Continue with Google to use your Google account. To use an email and password instead, click Create free account, enter Your name, Email and Password, and click Create free account again.

If you already use Diract, use the Sign in tab with Google, Sign in with a passkey, or the same email and password. Your mail opens in the company you last used.

Signing in at mail.diract.io opens your mail and nothing else. You sign in to your workspace separately, at diract.io.

If you belong to more than one company, click your profile picture and choose one under Switch company. Each company keeps its own mailboxes and projects. Changing company in mail leaves your workspace on its own company.

If we ask you to check your inbox, open the confirmation link we sent, and your mail opens. A link opened in a different browser signs you in there instead.

Connect Gmail or Outlook

Click Gmail or Outlook, then Continue with Google or Continue with Microsoft. Google or Microsoft asks you to allow Diract Mail to read and send your email. Your mailbox opens once you accept.

Your email stays with Google or Microsoft. Disconnect it any time from your account menu at the top right of the mail screen.

Connect any other email account

Click Other email. Enter your Email address and Password. Yahoo, iCloud, Fastmail and AOL refuse your usual password here and need an app password. The form says so, with a link to the provider's own steps.

We fill in the Incoming mail and Outgoing mail (SMTP) servers from your address. For a provider we do not know, we guess them and say so. Your provider's help page lists the right ones, usually under setting up a mail app.

Choose IMAP if your provider offers it. POP3 brings in your inbox only: no folders, and what you read here will not match your phone or other mail apps. POP3 also keeps no drafts.

Click Test and connect. We sign in to both servers before saving anything. A failure appears beside the part that failed, such as a wrong password or a port that did not answer.

Search covers every folder except Trash and Spam. Filing an email to a project works with Gmail and Outlook only. To change a server or the password, open your account menu at the top right of the mailbox and click Connection settings.

Start the workspace when you want it

mail.diract.io shows your mail and nothing else. Click Matter and tasks, the checklist at the top right of the mail screen, to see what the workspace adds. An admin of your company sees Start free trial there.

Click it, and a panel asks Do you go out to the work? Answer Yes and type your trade, then click Continue. Answer No and you go straight to the last question.

For a trade we have a setup for, Anything specific you need? is optional. Leave it empty for the standard setup. For any other business, Describe your business says how it runs, and we build a workspace from that.

Click Start free trial. A trade's workspace is built before it opens. Then click Open your workspace to open it at diract.io, and sign in there with the same email and password. Your mail stays at mail.diract.io.

The trial lasts 14 days and needs no card. Your mail stays free when it ends, and the workspace becomes read only until you choose a plan in Admin, then Billing.
